DIY: Three nail art designs!

If you scroll further down, you can see my previous post with gorgeous nail designs I found upon browsing Tumblr. Between the nail art pictures, I also stumbled upon a few nail art tutorials, which I’d like to share with you guys!

1. Gold leaf triangle nails: Obviously you can buy expensive gold foil, but I think this will also work out just fine with aluminium foil. Paint your nails in your preferred colour, cut out pieces of foil, put a little bit of glue on them and stick them to your nails. You can easily file the ends.

2. Ethnic/tribal nail art: Basically, you start with taking a ziplock bag, and painting a big rectangle on it with white nail polish. If you want to, apply a second coat as well. Wait for it to dry completely, then peel it off and cut out your decals as shown in step four. Apply a base coat on your nails in your preferred colour. When this nail polish is still slightly wet, a bit sticky, apply the decals to your nail. Cut off as close to your cuticles as possible, and apply a top coat.

3. Galaxy nails: Start off with applying a black coat, even two if necessary. With a make up sponge, apply shimmery silver polish in the middle. Allow for it to dry. Again using a sponge, apply bits of hot pink and dark blue to your galaxy. Finish off with a sheer polish with glitter to get a three dimensional starry effect. This tutorial might remind you of one of my previous posts, Nail art: Galaxy nails.

Photopost: Nail art

I was on Tumblr, searching for some cool nail art diys, and I found soooooo many stunning photos with nail arts ranging from ‘even-your-neighbour’s-toddler-can-do-this’ to ‘don’t-even-think-about-trying-you’ll-kill-us-all’. As my diy skills are actually quite similar to that neighbour’s toddler, I won’t even make an attempt. But I will show you the gorgeous discoveries I made!

(Fake nails by Elegant Touch, I will be reviewing these soon!)

(fake nails by Elegant Touch, I will be reviewing these soon!)

I don’t really like nails that are waaay too long. If I can’t easily pick up my keys, it’s a no-go for me. And I’m also not a fan of all those accessories women stick to their nails. Flowers, fruits, plastic little toys? Doesn’t really look comfortable to me.
So which ones are your favourites? Some of them seem really easy to do, so easy that I might even try them out when I have the time. I’m also planning on buying a matte top coat, but so far all the ones I tried made the base colour fade. If anyone knows a good matte top coat, let me know!

Will the real Barbie please stand up?

I’m sorry in advance if that title lead to the Eminem song being stuck in your head right now. It sure is in my head.

Anyway, Barbie does exist! It is 21-year-old Valeria Lukyanova’s life goal to look exactly like the plastic doll we’ve been playing with all of our childhoods. She’s had breast enhancement and has been to a few visits to her plastic surgeon for her face as well.

She sure as hell looks like a Barbie, but is that a compliment? Her face actually does look like plastic, rather emotionless, which makes her look cold and unfriendly. And I wouldn’t say that she has a healthy weight either.

But there are several theories on the internet speculating that the pictures are fake. One states that they are an artwork from an unknown artist, who photographed Barbie dolls as realistic as possible. If that is the case, I’d say he did an awesome job!

However, to supress the ‘fakery’ rumours, Valeria posted a few pictures on her Facebook profile without make-up. The Barbie pictures might still be photoshopped, but at least now we know the girl is real.

What do you think? Has society gone mad?

Adam Levine back on the singles market!

Just to get this clear: I don’t want to become another celebrity gossip blog, but if there’s something new and big in the lives of my favourite celebrities, I can’t help but post about it.

One of those favourites of mine is the recently single Adam Levine, singer of Maroon 5, who had been dating Victoria’s Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna for two years. However, Anne has confirmed to People Magazine that, although they’ve broken up, they still love and respect each other as friends.

They met in 2010, at a party organized by Sports Illustrated (Anne has modelled for their magazine cover several times), however Anne had confirmed in a previous interview that they didn’t really connect immediately: “He thought I was a stuck up bitch and I kind of thought he was a douchebag musician.”

Ok, so enough with the serious part, let’s get to the fun part! Obviously it’s too bad that a couple breaks up, but they’re both extremely hot, so if you look at it from the bright side: There’s two hot people back on the singles market! And since I’ve always liked the sexy Adam, here are some gorgeous pics of him, so go ahead and dream away about the life that the two of you might lead as lovers! That is, if you can make it past me, of course :)

My latest buys

I just got back on campus, where I live (I study languages at the VUB university in Brussels) and I decided to show you guys what I bought last week. I went shopping with my best friend, and though I was a bit short on money, I still managed to finally find myself a pair of sunglasses I adore and a lovely (and huuuuge) pair of earrings. You may have noticed the earrings before, they were dangling in my ‘DIY Earring holder’ post as well.

My friend bought himself a pair of mint green shorts, a pair of beige H&M pants and a pair of sunglasses as well (so many pairs!). I kinda felt like a personal stylist, making him try on all kinds of clothing, haha!

Ok, so on to my own buys:

First of all, this pair of sunglasses, including a cute retro flower case so they won’t break in my purse, which usually happens with all of my sunglasses.

Sunglasses (Six, €8.95) and flower case (Six, €5.95)

Second, my new earrings. They’re actually quite heavy, but it was the last pair and I just couldn’t resist! I absolutely looooooove big, outstanding and extravagant. Seeing as I used to have a 10mm stretcher in my right ear, my lobe kind of extends when I’m wearing these earrings, but my bangs mostly cover that, so I don’t really mind.

Earrings (Six, €6.95)

You may notice that this is the first time that I’ve included such a personal post. I’ve been thinking of doing this more often, doing OOTD posts, latest buys posts, things like that. However, I don’t really want to define my blog to one single subject or vision. I wil continue posting DIYs, reviews, fashion and beauty stuff, obviously. But I would like to make it a bit more personal. I’ve got a bunch of things that I bought or won that I would love to review for you guys, and I’m working on a few DIYs myself that I will show you in the near future.

So what do you guys think? Would you approve of my blog going a bit more personal, or not? My blog is nothing without readers and subscribers, so I’d like to hear your opinion :)

DIY: Earring holders (5 different ways!)

If you’re anything like me -a huge big jewellery lover-, you’ll have waaaaay too many earrings and probably just a dull place to store them all. I usually just use a big jewellery box, but the problem with those is that each and every day it is a fun game of find the right pairs and that’s not my idea of fun when I’m in a hurry. But when I was cleaning my room the other day (actually it took me about a week), I found a new and cute way to store ánd display them in neat pairs. And if you for some insane reason don’t like my system, don’t leave! I’ve got plenty more ideas.

1. So, my own idea is actually quite simple. My sister once bought me this big, purple potpourri/candle holder thingy, and when I took the little glass bowls off, I was left with a great base to hang my earrings on. I even kept one of the bowl holders (as you can see on the left, the circular thing with 3 pairs of tear shaped earrings on).

Pro: It looks really cute. Maybe it looks a bit weird on the picture, but trust me, in real life this is such an eye catcher.
Con: There’s no way I can ever store all of my earrings on this thing. Like, no way.

2. Use a grease splatter! A what? Yes, you read it right, a grease splatter. All the tiny holes in them are perfect to put a pair of earrings through. Bend the handle 90 degrees and you can put it on a flat surface. (idea by Instructables.com)

Pro: You can store lots of earrings at once. If you don’t like it on a surface, you can just skip the handle bending and hang the splatter on a wall.
Con: It’s a grease splatter. It’s quite huge. And it isn’t really a piece of art in your room, to be honest.

3. Well, if we’re using grease splatters already, why not a kitchen grater? You might raise your eyebrows, but actually it looks really cool! All you need is a kitchen grater you don’t use anymore, some spray paint (they used turquoise on this one) and if you like, some brass hooks for feet. (idea by Curbly.com)

Pro: Four different sides to hang your earrings, that’s having the opportunity to separate your earrings into four different themes or seasons! Plus, this actually looks awesome. Oh, and it’s a cheese grater, haha!
Con: Uhm, yeah, it is still a cheese grater. And if you’ve got earrings with plastic plugs to prevent them from falling from your earlobes, it might be difficult to hang them in the tinier holes of the grater.

4. Wire mesh in a frame. This one’s actually pretty common, but I’m still including it in this post. Because I can. The idea is pretty simple: Cut a piece of wire mesh big enough to fit a frame, nail or glue the mesh to your frame and hang your creation, covered in earrings, on the wall. If you prefer an even cuter look, you can use a piece of strong lace or fabric with holes instead of wire mesh as well.

Pro: Cute, creative and if you pick a large frame, you can display all of your earrings at once.
Con:  Same problem as with the cheese grater, you’ll have to reach for the back of your frame to remove the plastic plugs off your earrings each time you want to wear them.

5. One of the things I’ve tried myself as well, is using one of those little plastic transparent boxes that are used for storing sewing things.

Pro: Quick and easy to store, you can pile multiple boxes on each other and keep them in drawers if you like. Because they’re transparent it’s also easy to have a quick overview of your jewellery. They’re covered, so they’ll stay dust free.
Con: Not that aesthetic if you were planning on displaying your earrings.

How to: Perfect sock bun

If you’ve got long hair, like I do, you’ve probably tried to do it in a bun before. They are a quick and easy way to keep your hair out of your face. However, even with very long hair, your bun will still seem kind of small, compared to the big puffy buns you often see on runways.

But no worries, because you can get one of those big buns in no time as well! And all you need is an old sock you don’t need anymore. An old what? Yes, a sock. Watch and learn ladies.
